Design of Corduroy Trench |

| Today
the old gabardine trench coat design was reinvented and adapted for tastes
of both men and women. A modern corduroy trench looks very similar to
its famous predecessor, the gabardine trench coat, with a few exceptions.
For example majority of contemporary corduroy trenches are made double-breasted
with buttons just like the old trenches. Lighter, single-breasted corduroy
trench is on sale today as well, but reminds little of old style. Next,
a wide belt around the waist is another standard feature of the military
trenches and such belts can be seen on the modern designs. What about
famous shoulder straps and D-rings? Some corduroy coats are made with
D-rings on the belt and wrists for decoration purposes and not for hanging
map cases and swords as it was common hundred years ago. Shoulder straps
are also often used in the design of modern corduroy trench for fun,
because before they had a purpose to display epaulettes or other military
symbols. Finally, the length of the trench coat remained the same – knee-length. On the contrary to the old military stand-up collar with buttons up to the throat, majority of modern trenches carry some type of lapel collar for both men and women. A lapel collar is a combination of a lapel and a collar in one design to create a smooth and continuous neckline from back to front. The lapel collar is much more open compare to the stand up collar and is designed for warm temperatures. Lastly, a few contemporary corduroy trenches are made with the attachable heavy wool lining as it was practical with the old gabardine trenches. This heavy wool lining protected military officers during cold weather and could be taken off when weather was warming. |
